Gavin pockets RM845,200, qualifies for World Tour finale

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian golfer Gavin Kyle Green has qualified for this week's season finale DP World Tour Championship (European Tour) after finishing joint seventh at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa.

The 28-year-old closed with a two-under 70 at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City yesterday to finish with a four-day total of six-under 282, five strokes adrift of winner Tommy Fleetwood of England.

The creditable outing, which netted Gavin a cheque of €178,134 (RM845,200), came two weeks after he finished runner-up at the Portugal Masters.

It was also Gavin's fourth top-10 finish of the season besides a tied fifth at the Qatar Masters in March and second place at the Czech Masters.

These results were pivotal in helping Gavin make the cut for the lucrative DP World Tour Championship in 28th spot as it is exclusive to only the top 50 finishers in the season-long point standings.

The US$10 million showpiece in the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will feature a star-studded field including world No 1 Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, No 5 John Rahm of Spain and No 9 Matt Fitzpatrick of England.

Meanwhile in the United States, national No 1 women's golfer Kelly Tan missed the top-60 cut for the CME Group Tour Championship, the season-finale for the LPGA Tour.

Needing a strong finish in the Pelican Championship in Florida, Kelly missed the cut on Friday after carding a pair of 69 and 74.
