BJSS reach Mirnawan Cup semi-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) tamed NHDP Tigers 3-2 in a boys Group B match to enter the semi-finals of the Mirnawan Cup today.

They will face Group A champions Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) for a place in the final tomorrow at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Samrin gave NHDP Tigers the lead in the sixth minute but BJSS came back strongly with three goals through Mohd Fakhrul (12th), captain Shafy Shahymin Huzzeini (29th) and Amirul Syahmi (40th).

NHDP Tigers narrowed the deficit with a goal from Shafiq Ammar Fahmi in the 59th minute.

SSTMI beat SSM Sabah 4-0 to register their third consecutive win in Group A.

BJSS coach S. Prakash said they will face a tough task against SSTMI in the semi-finals. "We are without seven key players who went to play in a tournament in Perth," he said.

Sports Odisha of India registered their second win by defeating MSS Perak 3-1 in Group A to book a place in the semi-finals against Group B champions Japan.

Japan chalked up their third consecutive win by thrashing Singapore 11-0.

In the girls' Under-14 tournament, NHDP East advanced to the semi-finals by outplaying Singapore 6-0 in a Group B match.

NHDP East will take on Group B runners-up SSTMI Girls in the last four while favourites Sports Odisha of India will face NHDP North in the other semi-final.
