KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian girls maintained their perfect record to stay on course to retain their Asian Junior Team Squash Championships title in Chennai, India.
Malaysia, who won the title in 2019 when the competition was last held, had booked their spot in the semi-finals a day earlier.
And even though Malaysia opted to rest world No 65 Aira Azman, they were still a class above, cruising to a 3-0 win over Taiwan in their final Group A match today.
In a 1-3-2 order of play, world No 103 Yasshmita Jadishkumar powered past Cheng Yu Chen 11-5, 11-3, 11-4 in the first string.
Taiwan, who had only two players, conceded the second tie to Doyce Lee before Whitney Isabelle Wilson completed the win for Malaysia by beating Chen Yen Chi 11-0, 11-4, 11-1.
Group winners Malaysia can expect a harder time against India in the semi-final tomorrow. The other semi-final will be between Hong Kong and Japan.
"It's another solid win for the girls and they did well to wrap up their group matches," said national assistant head coach Andrew Cross.
"India in the semi-finals are definitely going to be very tough for them, and they will need to be ready and be at their best."
In the boys' event, Malaysia have also qualified for the semi-finals. The boys secured their last four spot after beating Japan 3-0 with Harith Danial, Shamiel Haeyzad Sharulhisam and Hi Jia Rong delivering the points.
