Arnie upstages Darsyanaa to advance into WSF Satellite last eight

KUALA LUMPUR: Arnie Goh upset joint third seed R. Darsyanaa 11-0, 11-4, 11-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the WSF Satellite No.3 tournament at the National Squash Centre yesterday,

In the first round in the morning, joint ninth seed Arnie came from two sets down to beat Najwa Zara 10-12, 9-11, 11-1, 11-9, 11-5. Arnie will face joint fifth seed Abhitha Shanraj next.

Abhitha, who received a bye in the first round, did not raise a sweat in the second round when her opponent, Vinosagi Monn, gave a walkover due to injury.

Arnie, a Form Five student of Bukit Jalil Sports School who was competing in a satellite tournament for the first time, said: "My match against Najwa Zara was really tough. I was stretched to the limit but I never gave up and won in five sets.

"And I never expected to beat Darsyanaa in straight sets in the second round. I'm feeling confident and I hope to beat Abhitha to reach the semis," said Arnie whose coach is Jess Tay.

Joint ninth seed Jessica Keng entered the quarter-finals by upsetting joint fifth seed Whitney Isabelle 12-10, 11-8, 11-6 to set up a date with South Korean Kim Ha Eun.

Ha Eun, the joint ninth seed, stunned second seed Vinikasheinie 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 in the second round.

In men's competition, Altamis Aqhar Sallam upset joint fifth seed Shamiel Haeyzad 11-9, 11-7, 1-11, 9-11, 11-8, and will face joint ninth seed Low Wa Sern in the second round.
