Abdominal pain won't stop Sadat

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite suffering from abdominal pain in the past two months, hammer thrower Sadat Marzuki Ajisan recorded 61.90m to shatter his meet record in the Higher Learning Institution (IPT) athletics competition in Melaka today.

His effort surpassed his previous record of 59.92m achieved at the IPT in Bukit Jalil last March. He posted 60.63m at the Malaysia Games last September to win gold.

Aiman Hakim Jamal of UPM bagged silver with 42.21m while the bronze went to David Anak John Mernika of UKM with 30.84m.

The 22-year-old Sadat, who is pursuing a degree in physical education at Universiti Putra Malaysia, said: "I was suffering from abdominal pain since January, and I only recovered recently. I am still surprised by my result today, which I did in the fifth throw.

"I must thank my coach Gu Yuan for helping me do a PB.

"I have qualified for the Sea Games on merit and I'm looking forward to throwing more than 62 metres to go one better by winning silver."

Sadat will be competing in his third Sea Games in May in Phnom Penh. He won bronze in the Hanoi edition last year with an attempt of 58.86m."

Meanwhile, V. Gautham set a meet record in the men's 10,000m by clocking 34:49.10s en route to gold. This was faster than the previous mark of 35:25.09s set by Movin Ragendran last year.
