Don't compare me with Azeem, says sprinter Haiqal

PHNOM PENH: Former Sea Games champion Haiqal Hanafi wants fans to stop comparing him with 100m national record holder Azeem Fahmi.

Haiqal won a bronze in Friday's Sea Games 100m final here after clocking 10.44s.

Azeem, who is based in the United States, holds the national record of 10.09s, which he achieved at last year's World Junior Championships in Colombia.

On Friday, the 19-year-old Azeem clocked a season-best mark of 10.11s at the SEC Outdoor Athletics Championships in Louisiana.

"Azeem and I are two different people. We each have our strengths and weaknesses. We each have our way on the track," said Haiqal, who won the 100m Sea Games crown at the 2019 Manila edition.

In the Sea Games 100m final at Morodok Techo National Stadium on Friday, Thailand's Soraoat Dapbang won the event in 10.37s, while Singapore's Marc Brian Louis (10.39s) took silver.
