KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian bowler Sin Li Jane reclaimed the Singapore Open title after a lapse of nine years.

In the stepladder final at the Singapore Bowling @ Rifle Range yesterday, Li Jane downed homester Sherlene Wong 227-193, 195-178.

Li Jane, who also won the Singapore Open in 2010, 2013 and 2014,

is now just one title short f matching Australiam Ruth Guerster's all-time best haul of five (1966, 1970, 1977, 1979 and 1980).

After pocketing the S$15,000 (RM51,500) winner's cheque, Li Jane said: "I'm so overwhelmed by this win. This is my first title after the pandemic. It's reassuring to know that I have what it takes to return to the winners' circle.

"It has been quite a struggle, but I'm glad that I manage to overcome this."

Prior to the stepladder, Li Jane finished second with 1,748 pinfalls over eight games ahead of Singapore duo Daphne Tan (1,726) and Shayna Ng (1,718). Shirlene topped the 18-player standings with 1,808. In the semi-final, Li Jane whipped Shayna 255-194.

In the men's Open, Malaysia's Timmy Tan finished fourth and took home S$6,000 after losing 213-184 in the quarter-final to last year's winner Kim Bolleby of Sweden.
