KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia edged closer to their 27-medal target after clinching two more bronze on day 11 of the Hangzhou Asian Games today.
When it was expected to be a dry day for the Malaysian contingent, veteran diver Pandelela Rinong popped up with a bronze medal in the women's 10m platform final.
The 30-year-old Sarawakian defeated five competitors for her second bronze in Hangzhou.
It also ended Malaysia's 13-year wait for a medal in the event. Incidentally, Pandelela was the one who last won it in, her debut, at the Guangzhou Games.
It could well be Pandelela's
her parting gift in what may be her final Asiad.
Malaysia's second bronze of the day came with a stroke of luck.
The national women's 4x100m quartet of Azreen Nabila Alias, Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli, Nur Afrina Batrisya Mohd Rizal and Shereen Samson Vallabouy, who finished fourth, were promoted to third after defending champions Bahrain were disqualified for lane infringement.
Malaysia have won three gold, four silver and 16 bronze for a total of 23 medals to rank 15th in the standings.
