Malaysian women reach Asian Championships semi-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's women's squash team entered the semi-finals with two wins in Group A of the Asian Championships in Dalian, China, today.

Top seeds Malaysia outplayed South Korea 3-0 in the morning and India by the same margin in the afternoon.

Malaysia have won four matches after two days of competition.

Rachel Arnold started the ball rolling with a 12-10, 11-5, 11-3 win over South Korean Hwayeong Eum. Aifa Azman then beat Dami Kim 1-3, 11-5, 11-1, and S. Sivasangari came back from a set down to overcome Ming Yeong Heo 11-13, 11-5, 11-5, 11-1.

Against fourth seeds India, Aifa beat Pooja Arthi Raghu 11-3, 11-5, 11-4, and her younger sister Aira defeated Janet Vidhi 11-1, 11-3, 11-1.

Sivasangari outclassed Rathika Suthanthira Seelan 11-4, 11-5, 11-8.

The Malaysian men's team, who topped Group A yesterday with wins over Iraq and Iran, will face Group B runners-up Singapore in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
