KUALA LUMPUR: Break into the world's top eight this year.
That is the target set for both national men's No. 1 Ng Eain Yow and national women's No. 1
S. Sivasangari by the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM)
Eain Yow is currently world No. 13 while Sivasangari is ranked 10th.
SRAM director of coaching, Andrew Cross, said they have set a target for Eain Yow and Sivasangari to get into the top eight in the world.
"Eain Yow has been playing well in tournaments in the last few months, and we believe that he can break into the world top eight.
"Sivasangari, too, has the ability to move to top eight, as she was previously ninth (in July, 2024) in the world.
"Breaking into the top eight will be good for both the players as they will be seeded for tournaments. Otherwise they will face world No. 1 and 2 in the first round.
"Both Eain Yow and Sivasangari will be playing 12 to 15 tournaments this year to achieve their targets," said Cross.
Asian champion Eain Yow, 26, will compete in the Motor City Open in Detroit from Feb 4-8 and Texas Open from Feb 18-23.
Sivasangari, 25, who helped Malaysia to finish third in the World Team Championships in Hong Kong last month, will feature in the Tournament of Champions in New York from Jan 23-30. She is currently training in Cornell, the United States, under David Palmer.
