IPOH: The death of former national tennis player Moses Tay is a huge loss to the sport in Malaysia.

Moses died in Setiawan, Lumut on Tuesday. He was 92.

Perak Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) vice-president Fazwil Abdul Wahid extended condolences on behalf of the association to his family.

"Moses adored tennis and contributed a lot to the Perak team. He also used to coach children when he was the patron of PLTA," Fazwil told Bernama on Friday.

Moses is remembered for captaining Malaysia's Davis Cup team from 1969 to 1971. In total, he represented the national team in various tournaments for 15 years.

He also won the Perak Open 11 times and was the first player to win the national meet in 1957.
