Singapore Covid-19 cases surpass 52,000

SINGAPORE: Singapore recorded 396 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, raising its tally of infections to 52,205.

In data released by the republic's Ministry of Health (MOH) on Friday, it was revealed that the vast majority of the new cases are foreign workers residing in dormitories.

"Based on our investigations so far, there are three cases in the community, all of whom are work pass holders," said the ministry.

In addition, the ministry said there were three imported cases placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

In full data released late on Thursday, Singapore classified 696 of reported cases as imported, 2,176 as community transmissions, and 48,937 as dorm residents.

Up to 46,308 of total cases have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

There are 148 confirmed cases still warded. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit.

A total of 5,326 patients with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 have been isolated and are being cared for at community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to COVID-19 in Singapore.
