51 cops apprehended for various traffic violations in Manila

MANILA: The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) took action to discipline its members by launching a traffic operation at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig city.

A total of 54 officers were apprehended for various traffic infractions in the operation dubbed Oplan Sita within the NCRPO headquarters Friday, Philstar.com reported.

NCRPO director, Brigadier General Jonnel Estomo, said the police officers caught were given citation tickets for violating provisions of the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

"The action taken led by the camp commander bespeaks that our personnel are not exempted from existing rules and regulations inside our regional headquarters and most especially from existing laws and ordinances," Estomo said.

Apart from traffic violation receipts, the police officers also received a stern warning from their commanders, he added.

Among these violations are driving without a license, using motorcycles without helmets, driving an unregistered vehicle, having no or expired decals, and failure to carry or show the official receipt and certificate of registration of their vehicles.

Meanwhile anti-narcotics operatives seized six kilos of marijuana valued at 720,000 pesos following the arrest of a 23-year-old man in Malate on Thursday.

The illegal drugs were recovered in the sting at the corner of Madre Ignacia and San Andres streets at around 10.45 pm, Estomo said adding a vehicle was also seized.
