Norwegian woman nabbed with RM4.5m worth of syabu

MANILA: A Norwegian woman was arrested following the recovery of 56 million pesos (RM4.5 million) worth of syabu, weighing about eight kilogrammes, on her arrival at the airport here.

The 59-year-old suspect, was apprehended with the drugs, allegedly in her possession, upon arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City on Friday from Dubai, Philstar.com reported.

A nurse by profession, the suspect was arrested by operatives of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group after receiving a tip a tip that a woman from Dubai will arrive in the country with prohibited narcotics.

The woman, who hails from Novik in Norway, was placed under government custody following the recovery of the 8.34 kilos of shyabu valued at 56.71 million pesos that were found in her luggage.

The foreigner is being held on charges of violating provisions of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Meanwhile, police seized around 4.8 grammes of syabu with a street value of 32,640 pesos in Taguig City on Thursday.

The illegal drugs were confiscated during a raid on the house of a 26-year-old drug suspect in Barangay San Miguel.

Southern Police District director Brigadier General Kirby John Kraft said apart from illegal drugs, a .38 calibre handgun with three bullets was also recovered from the suspect who is facing charges for possession of dangerous drugs and illegal possession of a firearm.
