Singapore Covid-19 cases surpass 55,000

SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 175 new Covid-19 cases today, raising its tally of infections to 55,104.

According to brief data released by the republic's Ministry of Health (MOH), three of the new cases are imported and have been placed on Stay-Home Notice.

Based on its investigations, the ministry said there was only one case in the community involving a Singaporean.

The vast majority of the cases, meanwhile, are "work permit holders currently under quarantine and workers tested in previous days due to dormitory clearance."

In its full data released late on Saturday, the ministry classified 745 of reported cases as imported, 2,191 as community transmissions, and 51,993 as dorm residents.

In all, 48,583 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities here.

Meanwhile, 145 confirmed cases are still in hospital.

Of these, the ministry said most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit.

A total of 6,174 cases who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19, are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection in the republic. - Bernama
