Makkah's Grand Mosque records more than 950,000 worshippers, Umrah pilgrims daily since beginning of Ramadan

MAKKAH: The number of worshippers and Umrah pilgrims at Makkah's Grand Mosque has reached more than 950,000 on a daily basis since the beginning of Ramadan, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

According to SPA, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has expressed readiness to receive an increase in the number of the visitors arriving in the last ten days of Ramadan.

"We will mobilise all human resources and operational equipment, to facilitate the mission for Umrah performers and ensure tranquility and reassurance of mood," said the Presidency as quoted by SPA.

The Presidency stated that the cleansing and sterilisation operations involves 4000 workers, washing the Grand Mosque ten times daily.

Each disinfection process consumes more than 80,000 litres of disinfectants, and 1,600 litres of fresheners, while sterilisation operations are carried out around the clock using approximately 15,000 litres of disinfectant.

More than 70 field teams have been equipped to work 24 hours a day to sterilise all sides and corners of the Grand Mosque and all its outdoor yards, using environment-friendly materials, and more than 500 automatic hand sanitisers.

Distribution of Zamzam water has been doubled, with 200,000 bottles given out using special vehicles, excluding the distribution of cylindrical Zamzam water bags by more than 1,400 workers and dozens of static dispensers every day.

In addition, more than 8000 ordinary and electric wheelchairs are available for pilgrims and visitors to use.

The department also emphasised the need for pilgrims and visitors to adhere to instructions while performing worship and to give full cooperation to security personnel and officers to ensure a calm and safe atmosphere. – Bernama
