SHANGHAI: A woman's act of 'revenge' against at rude staff at a luxury brand shop in China has grabbed headlines.
The woman, who uses the alias xiaomayouren on social media platform Xiaohongshu described a "most spleen-venting incident of the year" when she went to the Louis Vuitton (LV) outlet in Chongqing, southwesten China in June.
She returned to the shop at the StarLight Place shopping centre in Chongqing this month to buy something, said a report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), which quoted the Sohu news outlet.
This time, the woman asked staff to count the 600,000 yuan (RM368,415) in cash she used to make payment.
In the incident in June, the woman who was carrying a Hermes handbag, said she went to the LV shop to buy clothes and claimed that staff were stand-offish with her.
They allegedly ignored her request for drinking water and had showed her items from previous seasons despite her desire to see new arrivals at the shop.
It was also claimed that staff were impatient with the woman when she asked about dresses that could fit her.
The woman claimed she contated the "headquarters" of the luxury brand, but was allegedly ignored.
She returned to the shop two months after her first encounter and brought along a bag containing 600,000 yuan. She was accompanied by a personal assistant and a friend.
The trio tried some clothes and decided to buy them. The woman took out the bank notes to give to the shop assistant to pay for the clothes.
After staff counted the money for two hours, the woman told the people at the shop that she did not want to buy the items and that she wanted to leave the shop.
"After they finished counting it, I just took away my money and left. How is it possible for me to buy their products to improve their work performance?" the woman wrote on Xiaohongshu.
Her story went viral and earned praises from netizens.
One netizen. said "This ending is so delightful. I have always wondered why these shop assistants are so arrogant," said.
Another netizen said service at luxury outlets were much to be desired sometimes.
"They sell luxury goods, but it does not mean they are luxury goods themselves."
The South China Morning Post said the China office of Louis Vuitton has yet to respond to questions at the time the article was written.
It also reported that disputes caused by the dismissive attitude of sales staff are matters that often captivate social media users in China.
In 2021, a woman customer in eastern China's Zhejiang province told the media that she was shooed away twice within 15 minutes by a sales assistant in a luxury beauty store while she was sitting there to have a rest.
In that case, the woman claimed she felt discriminated against because she was dressed casually and was not wearing make-up.
The manager of the store apologised to the woman after the incident was widely reported.
