KUALA LUMPUR: Adobe recently unveiled a slew of updates for its Creative Cloud platform with the all-new photo editing software, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC, being its biggest announcement during the Adobe MAX 2017 conference in Las Vegas.
Lightroom was launched over a decade ago and became the industry’s leading desktop application for editing and organising photography.
Now, in an increasingly mobile-centric world, and with major improvements in smartphone cameras, Lightroom is transforming the digital photography era.
The new cloud-based Lightroom CC is the answer to professionals’ and enthusiasts’ demands for editing, organising, storing and sharing their photos from wherever they are.
Offering a more streamlined interface with easy-to-use sliders, Adobe is also providing users with up to 1TB of storage space that includes support for RAW images.
The new service supports Adobe Sensei – a machine learning technology which is able to recognise objects and people in photographs to make searching for and finding content simpler.
Best for mobile users, Lightroom CC makes it easy to share photos directly via social media and to create custom Lightroom web galleries that can be shared via link.
With the launch of the new cloud-based Lightroom CC, Adobe is not eliminating the previous version of Lightroom.
The older, non-cloud version of Lightroom software for desktops which users already know (and love) is still available, but has been rebranded as Lightroom Classic CC.
Lightroom Classic CC is not only getting new editing tools, but also faster speed and will continue to focus on a more traditional desktop-first workflow.
Other features include an enhanced Embedded Preview, new Colour Range and Luminance Masking functionality that enables users to apply precise edits.
The new Lightroom CC files can also be synced to the Lightroom Classic for desktop or at-home editing. If users have more than one device, Lightroom also backs up all photos and keeps edits synced across devices.
Now available across three photography plans, the price for the software ranges from US$9.99/month to US$19.99/month.
For those who are truly mobile and don’t require a desktop photography solution, the Lightroom Mobile plan for iOS and Android is available with 100GB for US$4.99/month.
