A 2,000-year-old Korean skincare beauty formula is proof that common food ingredients can have a profound effect on the skin, writes Nadia Badarudin

CALIFORNIAN skincare brand Ceramiracle is new to the local beauty and skincare scene but its award-winning mask and serum are already global cult favourites among beauty buffs who love products inspired by ancient beauty rituals and secrets.

Founded by Singaporean entrepreneur Eugene He in Santa Monica, Ceramiracle made its Malaysian debut last year.

Its flagship beauty concept store and cafe in Kuala Lumpur — the first in Asia — is garnering attention for its signature Celebrity Medifacial and The Ageless Cafe set in a Californian-inspired ambience.

PROTECTIVE LAYER

In conjunction with the recent International Beauty Day, the brand introduced two products from its First Light skincare series, The Essence and The Serum, here.

"Every Ceramiracle product is tied to a personal story of discovery, and backed by science. Each product was originally developed for people around me," says He.

He serendipitously discovered how an age-old herbal formula repaired his skin-which eventually inspired him to launch the skincare range which also gels well with his passion for prejudice-free and ageless beauty.

First Light The Essence is a bio-fermented essence formulated based on a 2,000-year-old Korean skincare beauty formula comprising organic Korean rice water, mugwort and ginseng.

These ingredients are rich in vitamins and minerals and can help improve skin complexion, hydrate the skin and slow down the ageing process.

"The Essence is a testament to how common food ingredients can have a profound effect on the skin.

"Its formula works synergistically with the skin to develop a moisture reservoir. A few drops will instantly soften, calm and revitalise your skin," he says.

First Light The Serum is a serum that mimics the powerful hydration and protective properties of vernix caseosa, a greasy substance which serves as a protective layer for a baby in the womb. The product is meant to hydrate and give an instant glow to the skin while restoring baby softness.

"After two years of research and trials, I finally created the perfect formula to mimic the benefits of the vernix caseosa in a serum. "With over 95 per cent active ingredients and 99 per cent natural ingredients, this plant-sourced squalene and ceramide proprietary blend matches the essence of the vernix.

He adds: "It's easy to be swept away by superficial and fleeting beauty. But at Ceramiracle, we stand by the belief in making beauty ageless."

Both products are vegan-friendly, not tested on animals and do not contain fragrance or harmful chemicals such as parabens.
