KUALA LUMPUR: Will this be THE next catchy tune to overtake hits Gangnam Style and Pen-Apple-Pineapple-Pen? Perhaps!

With her flamboyant personality, cosmetics millionaire Datuk Seri Dr Hasmiza Othman, better known as Datuk Seri Vida, has become the talk of the town yet again with her debut single, titled ’I Am Me’.

The music video (accompanied with lyrics) which has all the hallmarks of a viral craze, made its rounds recently on social media after it was uploaded on YouTube five days ago, garnering more than 600,000 views to date.

With a pink pastel-themed set, donning her signature headscarf and glittering crown with a sparkly dress, Dr Vida is seen prancing around to the catchy tune, mouthing the words to the simple lyrics, said to promote a message of self-confidence.

Edry Abdul Halim of KRU Music, the man behind the catchy tune, said he was overwhelmed by the amazing response from netizens, with many of whom even sent parodies of the video.

“It’s a phenomenon on its own already,” he told the New Straits Times.

“It’s amazing because the actual music video isn’t even out yet. We will debut the music video by the end of the month, hopefully. Expect more vibrant colours from the forthcoming video,” he added.

Edry believes that the song has the potential to garner worldwide attention.

“The song is in English, so that makes it more accessible for listeners around the globe to appreciate the song. We had planned to make it as catchy as possible.”

Debunking the idea that the song is highly influenced by infectious K-Pop tunes, Edry insisted that “I Am Me” was a pop song that has its own distinct sound.

“We’re trying to do something different by keeping it relevant to the current music scene. Otherwise we’d be in the shadow of Psy (who sang Gangam Style), and we didn’t want to steer towards that direction,” he said.

“I’m really happy for her (Dr Vida) as she managed to garner this amount of success within a short period of time. Coming out with a single at the age of 45, and an English one at that, is very courageous of her, and I applaud her confidence.

“She’s a very positive thinker and she is, quite honestly, the most confident woman I’ve ever met in showbiz. Whether or not people want to view the song positively or negatively, it’s ultimately their choice.

“Entertainment comes in so many forms. Sometimes the most catchy and fresh tunes are the ones that will get picked up easily. It’s good to see people having fun with the song so far,” said Edry.
