KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Ziana Zain, who has asked for “space” following her husband's arrest, has sent a cryptic message to fans, this time via social media.
"Don't judge my path if you haven't walked my journey" read the message which the singer uploaded on her Instagram account today.
Ziana's post garnered 4,533 likes and 211 comments so far, and most of them expressed support for her.
"Be patient Kak Ziana, may God protect you and family," said Mazlin.
"Being fierce and strict is good but don't go overboard and hurt your kids," said Siti Nur.
"Be strong sister, everything will be all right," said Kelly.
However, Ziana's police report against her husband, which led to his arrest for allegedly injuring their 9-year-old son with a cane, received brickbats when it was first reported yesterday.
A search on Facebook showed that many Netizens initially felt she was "pampering" her child by reporting her husband to the police.
Fatimah said: "The famous saying 'sayangkan anak tangan-tangankan' is what we should uphold. Ziana should not spoil her child and allow her husband to go to jail for using time-tested methods of discipline."
Lavender said: "As a child I got a lot worse than this, I was caned and beaten with belts, clothes hangers and rubber hoses until my whole body hurt."
However, by noon today, Netizens began showing sympathy for Ziana.
"Beating your child until injury is abuse," said Azmi Aziz.
"People shouldn't hide behind religious eduction to hurt children," said Rozila.
"You can beat your kid, but not to the extent of causing injury. I pray for Ziana and children," said Fatin Syahirah.
Ziana's husband, former air steward Armin Zaharin Ahmad Zambri, 53, has been charged with injuring their son with a cane on Feb 25.
Armin pleaded not guilty to the charge before Magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin at the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court yesterday.
He is alleged to have caned their son at 4am on Feb 25, and was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury. The offence carries a jail term of not more than 10 years or a fine, whipping or both.
He pleaded that he was merely teaching his son how to recite religious scripture and perform prayer.
Armin's case will be mentioned again on April 4.
According to the charge sheet, a police report was made by Ziana on Feb 27 before Armin's arrest on March 2.
Ziana and Armin were married in May 1998 and have four children, Muhammad Aiman, 19, Muhammad Ammar, 14, and 9-year-old twins Muhammad Ariel dan Siti Nur Kaseh.
