KUALA LUMPUR: Despite getting criticism from some quarters, popular actress-singer Nur Fazura Sharifuddin is thrilled that her first English single topped iTunes in just seven hours after its release.
In an Instagram post yesterday, the 35-year-old artiste expressed her delight that Can’t Forget Me which went swiftly to the top of the iTunes Malaysia charts.
“No. 1 in just seven hours after its release? Thank you guys! I’m so surprised and this is absolutely humbling. I’m glad that you love it as much as I do. I hope you listen to it and feel empowered, dance to it and feel happy. It is for you, I love you!”
Fazura’s fans and followers congratulated her on the success of her single.
“Faz, your new song made my day. I’m beyond happy. Very catchy melody, great arrangement, and the lyrics are on fire. Wish you all the best in life and career,” said Nisha.
“Yay! Congrats Kak Fazura. Proud of you. May you strive to excel in your career,” said Nurin.
Can’t Forget Me, which also sees Fazura’s debut as co-lyricist, is composed and written by Willy Beaman and Cameron Forbes, who have previously worked with singers Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.
The song, recorded in Los Angeles, the United States, last year “challenges her vocals to the maximum”.
She also said that its music video, also filmed last year, was Universal Music Malaysia’s most expensive to date.
“People have criticised my singing, and I admit I have a long way to go, since I'm more of an actress than a singer. I have my weaknesses but I’m willing to improve and I welcome constructive criticism,” she said in a news report yesterday.
The single is included in Fazura’s music repertoire when she performs at the Elmina Lakeside Concert in Shah Alam tonight.
The free concert which is held to mark the opening of the first 18 hectares of the 150-hectare park, will also feature popular Irish singer Shane Filan from Westlife.
