KUALA LUMPUR: Having filed for divorce several months ago, singer Adira Suhaimi finally admitted today that she was adamant to get divorced from her husband, Datuk Seri Adnan Abu.
The Akademi Fantasia Season 8 alumna said this at the Gombak Barat Syariah Lower Courts in Rawang here.
When asked about her decision by Syariah Judge Mohd Faizal Habib, the 28-year-old artiste was adamant “to carry on” with her application for divorce.
Adnan a.k.a Datuk Red, however, rejected the application made by his wife.
Arbitrators were supposed to be appointed for both parties at today’s proceedings, but Adnan’s lawyer, Mohd Hafiz Abd Rashid, requested for the postponement.
Mohd Faizal then set Dec 17 for the case to be mentioned.
Adira was represented by syariah lawyer Siti Nur Zafirah Mohd Padzil.
Divorce rumours had come to light since August, but both had denied it.
Apparently, Adira had submitted her divorce application on April 1, but had to postpone it as she was pregnant with their third child at the time.
“We have been trying to save our marriage since then, but I have come to this decision now seeing that this would the best solution for me and our children,” she said.
The couple tied the knot in Songkhla, Thailand, on Dec 3, 2015.
Adnan, 40, is also married to another woman, with whom he has five children.
The businessman has two other children from a previous marriage which lasted for five years.
