KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian-born Hollywood star Henry Golding has achieved another milestone in his career by appearing in Time magazine’s ‘100 NEXT’ list of rising international luminaries.
“Honoured to be a part of @time Next 100 with some truly special people. Thanks momma @michelleyeoh_official for the quote,” Golding posted on his Instagram page.
The “Crazy Rich Asians” star was listed alongside celebrities such as Camila Cabello, Billie Eilish, Liza Koshy, Jason Reynolds, Ezra Miller and Ryan O’Connell.
Golding’s entry in Time’s official website features a quotation by legendary Malaysian actress and “Crazy Rich Asians” co-star, Datuk Michelle Yeoh, who said that the actor has never lost sight of where he came from.
“His ethnicity, his background and his success reflect the inevitable – that we are all one race, one global culture and we will soon no longer have to talk about controversies surrounding representation.
“I am proud of his push for Asian representation,” said Yeoh, who also stars alongside Golding in the new film “Last Christmas”.
Sarawak-born, Terengganu-raised Golding made his first foray into show business as host of the BBC’s The Travel Show in 2014. He also made great strides as a model.
But his star went supernova in 2018 when he appeared in the blockbuster hit “Crazy Rich Asians”.
He followed this up a few months later with a starring role in “A Simple Favour”, with Oscar-nominee Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively.
Time’s NEXT 100 list, which was launched on Nov 13, highlights 100 rising stars around the world who are shaping the future of business, sports, politics, science, health, and entertainment.
