KUALA LUMPUR: Following the box office success in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, local animation film Ejen Ali The Movie is hoped to make an impact in neighbouring Indonesia beginning Jan 1.

The action adventure film, produced by Primeworks Studios and Wau Animation, is set to be screened in 100 cinemas there.

Speaking at an advance screening of the film yesterday at the CGV Grand Indonesia Mall in Jakarta, Primeworks Studios CEO Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar said that the company was thrilled at the success of Ejen Ali The Movie which had become the first animation film from Primeworks to break into the Indonesian animation film market.

“What a great way to kickstart the new year with Ejen Ali The Movie expanding its regional reach as Primeworks’ very first animated film to be released in Indonesia. We hope the rave reviews from our home country will be replicated here, as Usamah and his team of Wauriors have created a highly cinematic yet full of heart narrative that we’re proud to share with the Indonesian fans and movie-goers alike.”

Wau Animation CEO Usamah Zaid Yasin who was also present, added: “Ejen Ali’s Indonesian fans have been incredibly supportive from the get-go, and we are grateful for the opportunity and tireless requests for Ejen Ali The Movie to be screened here. We hope all our Indonesian Ejens will flood into the cinemas this school holidays and help us on this mission to break into the Indonesian box office.”

Ejen Ali The Movie follows 12-year-old Ejen Ali, who after being accidentally recruited as a spy has now grown to embrace his role in secret agency Meta Advance Tactical Agency (MATA) to protect the futuristic city of Cyberaya from outside threats.

Ali is surprised to discover that he is no longer the only master of the Infinity Retinal Intelligence System (IRIS) gadget, since MATA has now upgraded to IRIS Neo for all MATA agents.

When the new invention leads Ali to question his place and usefulness to MATA, he is approached by a rogue figure who claims to know about a surprising personal connection to Ali.

Risking his loyalty to MATA, Ejen Ali embarks on a thrilling chase to unravel these mysterious links.

Ejen Ali The Movie is still showing in cinemas nationwide.
