KUALA LUMPUR: Having diagnosed with a string of illnesses including stage 4 breast cancer, diabetes, hypertension and stroke, former newscaster Wan Chik Daud has been left bedridden.
Wan Chik, 80, suffered from a stroke in 2012, a couple of years after the passing of her husband, actor M. Rajoli.
Since then, the octagenarian has been cared for by her domestic helper, only identified as Fauziah, according to a news report yesterday.
Representatives from Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman) paid her a visit recently as part of its charity programme Ziarah Prihatin.
“Together with Persatuan Satria, Seniman committee members took the initiative to check on RTM’s once popular news reader,” said Seniman’s deputy president Zuraini Kassim.
Wan Chik has four children, with two of them currently residing in the United States.
She once acted alongside Tan Sri P. Ramlee in comedy movies Do Re Mi and Nasib Do Re Mi in 1966, after which she joined the national public broadcaster, where she served until her retirement.
