PAPAR: The terms of reference has been set for two committees that will deal with Royal Commission of Inquiry report on immigrants in Sabah.
Home minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the essence of the terms will focus on resolving issues related to the presence of illegal immigrants in Sabah using the RCI report as guide.
Zahid said this after visiting the Kimanis Temporary Detention Centre here where he was also given a briefing by the Federal Special Task Force.
Earlier he met Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman for an informal Permanent Committee on RCI meeting which is co-chaired by the two of them.
Zahid also revealed there are about 700,000 immigrants in Sabah including an estimated 250,000 who are here illegally.
"According to the latest figures from the NRD the number of Malaysians from Sabah is 2.511 million," he said and pointed out the population in the state was 3.2 million according to the 2010 census carried out by the Statistics department.
