KUALA LUMPUR: SUMMERNATS Malaysia, which will be held from Aug 29 to 31 at Sepang International Circuit, offers running and cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to celebrate Merdeka by doing the things they most enjoy.

The two events open are the 11.08km Merdeka Run and Biggest Merdeka Summernats Bicycle Gathering, both of which will take place on the Sepang Formula One racing track on Aug 31.

The aim is to bring together more than 8,000 participants.

The Biggest Merdeka Summernats Bicycle Gathering will also enable cyclists to explore the Formula One and MotoGP racing track. Participants will receive certificates of participation.

Those who finish the 11.08km run will receive a medal and certificate of participation.

These events will take place just after the annual 12-Hour Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race.

Those intending to visit Summernats Malaysia are encouraged to also download the mobile application Summernats Malaysia on Google Play and Apple App Store for convenient retrieval of event information, ticket purchasing and registration. The application also provides the events schedule and layout, a gallery page, and lists the many attractions during the weekend. It will also remind the user to attend the event.

Modelled after Summer Nationals, Australia’s biggest automotive event, Summernats Malaysia is an all-in-one motoring, lifestyle and family event that features a wide variety of attractions, from muscle, classic and hot rods car displays to engaging activities for the entire family.

JPM Motorsport, which also organised Super GT 2011 to 2013, invites the Malaysian public to celebrate Merdeka at the event.

“The 11.08km Merdeka Run and Biggest Merdeka Summernats Bicycle Gathering is a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to experience the racing circuit on Merdeka Day,” said JPM Motorsport managing director T.J. Chin.

The organiser is also hoping to enter the Malaysia Book of Records as the Biggest Summernats Bike Gathering and the Biggest Summernats Car Gathering.

JPM Motorsport is registered on the Malaysia Book of Records for organising the largest Supercar Gathering of 608 supercars of different models and marques at the Sepang International Circuit in 2012.

Last year, the company also successfully organised a convoy of 2,202 motorcycles in the Malaysian round of the Super GT Series at Sepang International Circuit.

Summernats Malaysia serves as a commercial and marketing platform for car and automotive products and accessories manufacturers to display and promote their products, and is envisaged to become a regional Asean automotive event,
