BUTTERWORTH: Police recovered the remains of a 5-year-old boy who was reported missing last Tuesday, at an oil palm plantation in Bukit Mertajam here yesterday.
Forensics and K-9 teams discovered the body in Kampung Tongkang, off Jalan Permatang Tinggi here.
They made the discovery after the boy’s mother confessed that she had accidentally killed her child at their home in Kulim on Sept 20.
Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Kesah said the woman had initially reported that the boy went missing during an outing at the Esplanade in George Town last Tuesday.
“The woman later confessed that she had accidentally killed her son and later dumped his body in an oil palm plantation.”
Police mounted a search yesterday through a large tract of the plantation near Bukit Tengah with the woman’s boyfriend.
The boyfriend, in his 30s, was in lock-up garb and was heavily guarded throughout the search. It is believed he had helped dispose of the body.
