KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested PKR youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad earlier today to facilitate investigations into his involvement in 'Kita Lawan' weekly anti-government rallies.
The Seri Setia assemblyman was picked up at his house in Denai Alam, Selangor about 9.45pm.
City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Zainuddin Ahmad said Nik Nazmi is being detained under Section 143 of the Penal Code for participating in unlawful assembly.
He said Nik Nazmi was taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters.
Nik Nazmi is the third person arrested in relation to the weekly rallies, which took place for the second time in front of a shopping complex in the city on Saturday, after student activist Adam Adli Abd Halim and Jingga 13 chief coordinator Fariz Musa.
Adam and Fariz, who were nabbed shortly after Saturday's rally ended about 5.30pm, had been released on police bail at 11am today.
The three are being investigated as police believed that they were among those who gave speeches in the rallies, which among others called for participants to overthrow the government.
It was reported that Nik Nazmi was also supposed to be taken into custody on Saturday alongside Adam and Fariz, but he was taken away by supporters who clashed with policemen in front of the police complex.
