DUNGUN: A labourer and his wife, who are suspected of being drug traffickers were nabbed during a raid at their house in Jalan Santong, Paka last night following a public tip-off.
The police team raided the house at 10pm. While inspecting the 47-year-old man and his 29-year-old wife from Taman Wan Adnan, here, police found six vials of heroin worth more than RM2,500.
District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zailani Yaacub said a vial of heroin weighing 3.51 grammes was also found in the man's pocket. Initial investigation revealed that the suspect was involved in distributing the drugs in Paka and Kerteh.
"Another five vials of the same items were hidden in a sling bag inside the couple's bedroom. In total, items weighing 23.58 grammes were seized by the team," he said adding that the couple were detained for further investigation at the Dungun police station.
A Proton Wira worth RM30,000, believed to have been bought with proceeds from their drug dealings, was also being seized.
"The 32-year-old male suspect from Kampung Batu Mengkebang , Kuala Krai had previous convictions for drugs. He also tested positive for methamphetamine," he said adding that both were being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
If convicted, they could face a mandatory death sentence.
