LANGKAWI: A minor panic was triggered this morning when a passenger ferry at the Kuah jetty caught fire.

About 30 per cent of the ferry was damaged in the blaze, which affected the vessel’s mid-section.

However, there were no injuries reported as there were no passengers onboard in the 10.15am incident.

Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Zabidi Che Teh said a team of 18 firefighters took about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

“We are still investigating the cause of the fire and the estimated losses involved," he said.
