TAWAU: About 300 houses were destroyed after a fire broke out in the wee hours at Kampung Titingan, here.

In the 1.30am incident, district fire and rescue department deployed 34 firefighters to put out the fire.

They were assisted by police and civil defence personnel. It was learnt that several vehicles were also damaged in the event.

Acting district fire and rescue chief Faisal Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 1.33am, adding the team managed to bring the situation under control at 5.39am.

“Operation to extinguish the fire is still ongoing to ensure that the fire is completely put out.”

No injuries were reported at the moment and the department was investigating the cause of fire.
