PUTRAJAYA: Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko arrived at the Perdana Putra Complex for his meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today.
Accompanied by his wife Maryna Poroshenko and several members of the Ukrainian delegation, they were greeted by Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor at 4.05pm.
Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and senior officials including Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali.
Poroshenko and his delegate were accorded an official welcome by the 1st Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment in conjunction with their three-day visit.
This is the first visit by a Ukrainian president to Malaysia, marking growing ties between the two nations.
Najib and Poroshenko are scheduled to discuss bilateral issues and explore possible areas for collaboration.
The two leaders were also scheduled to witness the signing of a number of bilateral agreements and treaties aimed at promoting cooperation between the two countries.
Figures have shown that trade between Malaysia and Ukraine last year stood at RM1 billion. Ukraine is one of the major destinations for Malaysian students keen to study medicine.
