KUALA KANGSAR: The Chinese community in Kampung Baru Jerlun here was greeted with great news today when it was learned that the federal government had approved their request for the building of a community hall.
Better still – the state government revealed that they may even be allowed to build a larger, better-equipped hall than originally proposed.
State Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the newly-proposed hall would be bigger than the original plan and will even house a basketball court.
He said the federal government had allocated RM700,000 for the construction of the hall, which was one of the pledges made by Barisan Nasional during the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election in June.
"The land will be triple in size than the original plan, and we are now waiting for the state government's approval," said Dr Mah after visiting the site today.
He said the villagers had waited 62 years to have their own community hall.
