ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor state government is aware of the importance for students to master the English language and the state Education Department has taken various measures to help them.

State Education, Information and Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Executive Committee chairman Datuk Md Jais Sarday told the state assembly that among the initiatives taken by the department includes the ‘5 Bintang Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)’ programme where each district’s education office would identify students with the lowest five per cent score in the subject and provide them with a two-workshop.

“The department also implemented the Effective Writing for UPSR and SPM programme where English teachers are given exposure on the implementation of effective writing.

“The department’s English Language Unit has also prepared the Everyone Can Pass English module for SPM students which was distributed to all schools in the state in compact disc form,” said Jais when answering a written question from Datuk Syed Sis Syed Abd Rahman (BN - Tanjung Surat) at the State Assembly.
