KUALA LUMPUR: Boys' singles Chia Weijie, came good in the opening stage of the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) badminton meet on Monday when he saw off Labuan's Wong Jun Po.

Representing Kuala Lumpur, Chia Weijie scored a 21-11, 21-5 win in just 16 minutes at the KL Badminton Stadium in Cheras.

Also through to the second round was Weijie's Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) teammate Lim Chong King who beat Penang's Liew Jun Rong 21-12, 21-19 in the first round.

BJSS coach Kwan Yoke Meng when contacted, said both players are currently the top two singles in the Form Five group and are using the MSSM as good training ground before the Asia Junior Championships in Indonesia in July.

"I hope these players will use this tournament as a platform to boost themselves.

"Weijie and Chong King are currently the top two singles in the form five group at BJSS.

"Doing well here, may also boost their chances of making the World Junior Championships squad in October," said Yoke Meng.

Weijie will play Pahang's Chong Kar Chung on Tuesday for a place in the quarter-finals, while Chong King faces Kelantan's Kang Kai Chien.
