KOTA KINABALU: Police detained two mechanics today for possessing a fake pistol.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said the duo, aged 28 and 38, were detained around 5.50am yesterday at Kampung Cempaka in Likas near here.
"Police spotted the two men inside a car and stopped them.
"They found a fake pistol with 19 pellets inside a plastic bag, as well as official vest belonging to an enforcement agency," he said in a statement, adding the 28-year-old man had six criminal records.
Chandra added the pistol and pellets were purchased online for RM250.
Police are still investigating the motive of the two possessing the fake firearm and vest.
Both suspects have been remanded until Sunday to be investigated under Section 36 (1) of the Firearms Act 1960 for possessing fake firearms.
He also the public that it was an offence to possess firearms without permits.
