KINABATANGAN: A woman was slashed by her aunt at a plantation worker quarters in Jeroco here on Saturday.
The aunt suspected her niece was having an affair with her husband, which led to the 7.57am incident.
The 26-year-old victim sustained injuries on her head, fingers, calf and knee after she was slashed with a 30cm-long knife and was rushed to the Kinabatangan Hospital.
A police report was lodged by the plantation management after they were alerted to the incident.
District police chief superintendent A Sahak Rahman said initial investigations found that 33-year-old woman was angry after learning that her husband was having an affair with her niece.
"The victim was resting at home when the suspect approached and attacked her. There was a struggle between the two women, which led the victim sustaining slashes on her hand and leg," he said when contacted today.
The police, upon receiving the information rush to location and apprehended the suspect. The team also seized a knife, believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
"The suspect was brought to the district police station to assist with further investigation," he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury using a sharp weapon.
The victim is a single mother with a seven-year-old daughter.
