KUANTAN: The Sessions Court today set March 29 to hear the decision of the inquest into the deaths of a father and son while watching Racing and Education Innovation (EIMARace) 2016 at Jalan Sukpa, Indera Mahkota, two years ago.
Judge Sazlina Safie fixed the date after taking into account the fact that Coroner Dazuki Ali is away on a three-day course starting today.
The decision of the inquest was initially scheduled to be heard today, after 20 witnesses testified during proceedings which began Dec 11 last year.
The proceedings were held to investigate if there was negligence or crime in the death of Izwan Isa, 39, and his 5-year-old son Nur Zulaikha, who were hit by a go-kart type vehicle participating in the competition at about 11am on Sept 25, 2016.
The vehicle was believed to have crashed into them after a collision involving three such vehicles in the race. The accident caused Izwan to sustain severe injuries in the chest, while his son died of severe head injuries.
The inquest proceedings were assisted by deputy public prosecutor Wahida Zainal Abidin, lawyer Datuk Syed Azimal Amir Syed Abu Bakar who represented Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as organiser, Che Ariffin Mohd Ali (representative of the victim's family), Mohd Syahril Daud (Motor Sports Association of Malaysia (MAM), Juliana Abu Bakar and Rosmah Rosli (Kuantan Municipal Council) and Ahmad Hazwan Hamdan (Fraser Hill Development Corporation).
