MELAKA: Two women from Indonesia were sentenced to three months’ jail by the magistrate’s court in Ayer Keroh here today after the duo pleaded guilty to soliciting for the purpose of prostitution two weeks ago.

The women identified only as Renny, 25, and Hardiyanti, 33, were separately charged for the offence before magistrate Mohd Firdaus Salleh.

According to the charge sheets, Renny and Hardiyanti were soliciting for prostitution at a room number four and six of a hotel in Jalan Munshi Abdullah here at 2.30pm on Jan 14.

They were charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code, which carries the maximum one year imprisonment or liable for a fine or both upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor N Sivashangari urged the court to impose deterrent sentenced against both of the accused and for them to be handed over to the Immigration Department after completing their sentence.

Renny and Hardiyanti, who were unrepresented, pleaded for leniency on the grounds that they have families to look after in their home country.

Mohd Firdaus later sentenced both women to three months’ jail beginning today.

At a separate court room, another Indonesia woman, Nurma Linda, 31, was slapped with RM2,300 fine after she pleaded guilty to prostitution.
