MIRI: A pregnant 18-year-old drug addict was among 39 people rounded up by police here during a two-day anti-drug operation which ended on April 12.
The teenager tested positive for syabu (methamphetamines) and ganja.
According to police, the youth is aware that she is pregnant, but said that she is “unable to fight her drug addiction”.
“All those detained, aged between 18 and 63, were arrested during raids conducted in Kampung Pulau Melayu, Tudan, Pujut, Permyjaya and areas around Subis.
“Our efforts were supported by the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and Residents’ Committee (RC),” said Miri National Anti-Drugs Agency chief Mazlan Jikran.
He added that 36 of the detainees are being investigated under the Drug Dependents (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983; while another three will be investigated under Section 6(3) of the Drug Dependent Act 1983.
