GOMBAK: A lone female thief, who targeted female suraus in Rawang to commit her crime, has been arrested.

The 37-year-old woman had stolen valuables such as handbags and mobile phones belonging to the female suraus’ congregation.

Her activity, however, ended when a team of police officers detained her at Taman Setia Rawang yesterday.

Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Arifai Tarawe said the woman was arrested by a team from Rawang police station who conducted a surveillance on her at 2pm.

“The suspect tried to escape in a Proton Wira when she noticed their presence. However, they managed to apprehend her and she was brought to Rawang police station for further investigation,” he said.

Arifai said initial investigation found that the woman has hit four suraus around Rawang.

“The police also seized a few handbags, two mobile phones, a wristwatch and a bank book. She is now remanded for four days to facilitate investigation under Section 380 of the Penal Code,” Arifai concluded.
