BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have reclassified the case of a snatch theft victim who died at the Seberang Jaya Hospital yesterday as murder.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the suspect in the case was detained not long after the incident and had been charged with the offence on Dec 20.

The case has been fixed for trial on Thursday.

"The suspect is currently remanded in prison as he was unable to come up with bail money," he said.

Nurfarahdila Zulkifli Amin, 32, was admitted to the hospital on Nov 23 last year, due to a broken collarbone, following the incident at Persiaran Jenahak 1 in Seberang Jaya, near the boutique where she was working.

She was relieved off her mobile phone, MyKad and bank card in the incident.

Nurfarahdila however managed to alert passers-by before she passed out.

Meanwhile, social media has been abuzz since early today with messages of sympathy and condolences for the victim.
