PETALING JAYA: A former consultant psychiatrist who was released by the court last week for allegedly insulting the modesty of his former patient by uttering obscenities was charged again with the same offence today.
Dr Gurdeep Singh Narain Singh, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before magistrate Nurshahira Abdul Salim.
On Jan 13, it was reported that counsel Datuk Suraj Singh and Dinesh Ramachandran who represented the 42-year-old doctor said their client was discharged not amounting to an acquittal by the magistrate court.
Dinesh said his client was released since the investigations papers were not in court.
The accused was alleged to have uttered the offensive words to a former female patient at the Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara about 4.30pm on Feb 12 last year.
The offence falls under Section 509 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum five years' imprisonment or fine or both.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor P. Vitiya Monisha asked the court to impose RM5,000 bail against the accused.
However, counsel Datuk Mohd Haziq Pillay who represented the accused pleaded for a minimum bail.
Nurshahira set bail at RM5,000 with one surety and fixed March 4 for hearing.
