KOTA BARU: Famed 72-year-old solo cyclist, Wan Hashim Wan Mahmood, fondly known as “Pak Wan”, completed his 43-day trip through Southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore today.

Wan Hashim was accompanied by Kelantan Darul Naim Media Club (Kemudi) representative Shahuri Awang, who arrived at a hotel here at about 9am, along with nearly 50 family members and fans.

Wan Hashim said he and Shahuri, who is also a part-time photographer with the Malaysian National News Agency Bernama, successfully cycled a distance of 3,000km.

He said they began their journey on April 8 in Kota Baru and ended the trek in the same district.

"We are very happy that we finally managed to complete our journey, although we faced several challenges," Wan Hashim told reporters here today.

The septuagenarian had already been recognised as 'The Oldest Bicycle Pedaller To Tour Peninsular Malaysia' by the Malaysian Book of Records in April 2014.

On Jan 17, 2015, he succeeded in completing a five-nation solo tour of Southeast Asia in a period of 49 days – faster than the original estimate of three months.

He cycled for 5,319km through Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Riau Indonesia and Peninsular Malaysia.
