GEORGE TOWN: A fire consumed 26 motorcycles and two cars at a hotel parking garage here, early today.

It is learnt that the vehicles were undergoing the process of insurance claims after being involved in accidents.

The workshop owner, who only wished to be known as William, 40, said he rushed to the scene the moment he was told of the fire.

"I don’t know if this was sabotaged or other reasons, but I hope the authorities will uncover the truth,” he said, adding that he was unable to estimate the total losses.

The blaze reportedly began at 4.35am. Fire and Rescue Department personnel arrived at the scene minutes later.

The flames were put out about 6am.

The department's forensic unit is inspecting the area to identify the source of the fire.

Police canine units were also deployed.

Police said they would investigate any possible elements of foul play.
