KAMPAR: A Form Five student was found dead in front of the lobby of a hotel here, believed to have fallen from the fifth floor of the building early today.
In the 12.05am incident, Hon Seong Yan from Taman Bukit Desa, Kuala Lumpur, was killed on the spot due to severe head and body injuries.
Kampar Police chief Superintendent Ng Kong Soon said the victim together with 41 other students and a lecturer from a private educational institution in Petaling Jaya had been staying at the hotel for several days to attend a religious seminar.
"Initial investigation revealed that the victim had informed his friend who stayed in the same room that he wanted to smoke at the room's balcony since the room is a non-smoking area.
"The victim was left alone when his friend went out to meet his friends. After 20 minutes, his roommate who just returned to his room realised that the victim was no longer there and couldn't be contacted.
"This prompted one of his friends to check at the room's balcony, only to find the victim's body in front of the hotel lobby in a pool of blood," he said when contacted today.
Ng said the 17-year-old victim was pronounced dead by a medical team and his body was taken to the Kampar Hospital for post-mortem.
"The case has been classified as 'sudden death' as there was no criminal element," he said.
