JELI : The Federal Government spends about RM22 billion every year in health services and will continue to give priority to the people's health.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said despite the amount, the Government only collected RM700 million in return.
"The Government has been subsidising a lot in health service alone just to help reduce the people's burden.
"As an example, people have to pay RM1 at the government hospital compared to more than RM30 they have to pay at private hospitals.
"This proves that when it comes to the people's health, the government will give its best priority," he said when launching a new block at Jeli hospital here today.
Also present were health minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, International, Trade and Industry minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, deputy minister in the Prime Minister's department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dasuki and state health director Datuk Dr Ahmad Razin Ahmad Mahir.
The RM50 million project which was completed last year, provided additional facilities to the hospital ,among others more wards, two operation theatres, a pathology unit as well as more parking space for the public.
On the setting up of the new block, Najib said it also showed that the Federal Government and Barisan Nasional had never been selective in giving allocations.
"As a leader, l have a principle and my principle is that the Government will give its top t priority when it comes to the people's welfare and health.
" l will be fair to everybody regardless what party they represent. Hopefully l will get a reward in the hereafter," he said.
Najib said this was proven with the construction of 10 government hospitals in Kelantan.
"This is the Government's approach to the people. Soon there will be new hospitals in Bachok and Kuala Krai which means that all 10 districts in Kelantan will have hospitals," he said.
About 10,000 hospital staff and local people attended the function.
