KUCHING: Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has started its investigation into the collapsed crane incident at a housing project in Kota Samarahan near here on Friday.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said CIDB is working with Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) before taking the next course of action.

"We will carry out a thorough investigation into the case, to determine the cause of the incident, whether there's negligence among the contractors or developers.

"If any parties found to be at fault or not following the rules and regulations, we will not hesitate to take action against them," he told the reporters here today.

Two construction workers including a 40-year-old woman were crushed to death by a crane which collapsed at a construction site in Taman Capital, Tanjung Tuang, in Kota Samarahan.

The victims identified as Muhammad Bake, 49, and his colleague, Helen Suma Gilbert, succumbed to severe head and bodily injuries. They died on the spot in the 3.35pm accident.

It was learnt that the victims and their colleagues were busy working at the construction site for a housing project when the crane collapsed.
